WHEN THE HEATH TREMBLED

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP COUNTDOWN IN LUHMUHLEN FROM JUNE 16TH TO 19TH AND JUNE 23RD TO 26TH, 2022

“Wild Mustang - The Horse Gallery” makes the 1982 World Championship exhibition possible. As part of the Longines Luhmühlen Horse Trials from June 16th to 19th, and during the German Youth Championship in Eventing from June 23rd to 26th, 2022, Ulla Kimmig will present the 1982 World Championship exhibition in her mobile gallery.

Forty years ago, the World Eventing Championships were held in Luhmühlen. Ulla Kimmig's "mobile gallery" brings the memory of the championships to life. The exhibited photographs are from the World Championship book published in 1982 by Ed Minhoff and Just-Andreas Rogge (†). These images have been reimagined by photojournalist Ulla Kimmig. Her mobile exhibition space makes it possible to present the exhibition in conjunction with the Longines Luhmühlen Horse Trials and the German Youth Eventing Championships.

FOUR-LEGGED BUDDY –
THE PIT HORSE

Since time immemorial, the horse has been humankind's closest partner. It was indispensable in agriculture, connected cities and countries, decided wars, and played a crucial role in the struggle for the precious black diamond, coal. Yet, despite its ubiquitous presence in Europe and America, it is barely mentioned in libraries on 19th- and 20th-century history.

THE ART WAGON

Wild Mustang – The Horse Gallery is the result of a vision by photographer and rider Ulla Kimmig. The mobile gallery presents high-quality documentary photographs in thematically changing exhibitions from a time when the progress of civilization was shaped by the services of the horse.

THE FIRST MOVIE STAR WAS A HORSE

With the kind support of the Autry Museum of the American West, Los Angeles.
Western films, for example, would be inconceivable without horses; they are what convey the characteristic emotional experience of "freedom and adventure." Like the actors, they too had to undergo constant training for their performances.
Planned for summer 2022.

HIGH-QUALITY DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY
FROM THE WORLD OF HORSES

The cozy atmosphere created by wood, birdsong, and the smell of the horses grazing in the neighboring pasture is the workplace of photojournalist Ulla Kimmig.

ABOUT ME

"The history of man is also the history of the horse."

The renowned photographer and photojournalist Ulla Kimmig has found in Mustang Sugar Man the link between her passion for horses and her work in documentary photography. This is the story of the rider and photographer's shared journey with her Mustang from California to Jesteburg.
